PRESS RELEASE
It’s Time To Discover What Tenerife is Really All About
While Tenerife has long been the holiday destination of choice for many Brits, Andrea and Jack Montgomery, originally from Manchester, decided to swap their corporate lives in the UK for the sunshine and Fiestas of Spain’s Canary Islands.
So, after almost 6 years as Tinerfeños (Natives of Tenerife) they landed a book deal to share their intimate knowledge of what it’s like to live on this beautiful island.
The book entitled “Going Native in Tenerife” is the fourth “Going Native” book from NativeSpain.com and has longer-term visitors and newly landed expats in mind as it sets out to inform and enlighten readers on the finer points of living on Tenerife.
Andrea says, “Many people think of Tenerife as simply a holiday destination full of Brits tempted by the lovely year-round climate.”
Jack continues, “But what we’ve discovered is an island rich and diverse in landscape, culture, history and tradition. Great chunks of which are entirely overlooked by even the most reputable travel guides.”
Their work involves travelling the island to parts that visitors and even most residents never see, trekking along goat trails in the mountains, treading the streets of every town and village and revelling at fiestas until dawn (all in the name of research).
Armed with all this first hand knowledge and passionate about promoting the Tenerife that exists beyond the holiday brochures, they have written ‘Going Native in Tenerife’ so that others may discover the island’s hidden delights.

ANDREA AND JACK
In 2003 Jack and Andrea Montgomery stepped off the corporate ladder, jettisoned financial security and swapped life in a Manchester suburb for the sunshine and fiestas of Tenerife.
Based in the north of the island, they now live amidst banana plantations at the foot of Europe’s largest volcano; Mount Teide. In order to make a ‘livi’ (a ‘livi’ is almost a living), they exchanged writing about North West England’s disadvantaged groups and skills shortages for photographing and writing articles about Tenerife’s rich heritage, its picturesque villages and dramatic coastlines. A lucky break in the form of a case of mistaken identity introduced them to Living Tenerife’s editor and they began submitting regular features to the magazine’s glossy pages.
Their work involves travelling the island to parts that visitors and even most residents never see, trekking along goat trails in the mountains, treading the streets of every town and village, revelling at fiestas until dawn (all in the name of research) and spending endless hours poring over books and hundreds of English and Spanish language websites and translating reams of sleep inducing Spanish text.
What Jack and Andrea have discovered is an island rich and diverse in landscape, culture, history and tradition, great chunks of which are entirely overlooked by information sources, tour groups and even the most reputable travel guides.
Armed with all this first hand knowledge and experience they have written ‘Going Native in Tenerife’ so that others may discover the island’s hidden delights. Passionate about promoting the Tenerife that exists beyond the holiday brochures, they’re now authors, feature writers, corporate bloggers and photographers for magazines and websites and they reckon there are still parts of their beautiful adopted homeland waiting to be discovered…on foot.
